The Slow Burn Process of Link Building

Link building will always be a prime component of any search engine optimization strategy. Each and every link that is placed on the internet promoting your website will serve as a vote for the site’s popularity. That means the more links you have, the better the ranking of your website in the search engines.

Or does it?

There may be more than a little controversy regarding whether or not the all links and, subsequently, all link building strategies are valuable in terms of their impact on search engine optimization. In regards to this controversy, it would be safe to say that each and every link that you place on the internet has value. However, the type of links you place on the internet and how you place them will play a vital role in their actual impact. How is this so? Here are some points:

Purchasing links in bulk is a common practice many websites employ. This is not the best plan of action although it does have certain benefits to it. But, if you would prefer to get the most benefit out of the process, you would not want to place a huge number of links online simultaneously. This reveals to the search engines that you are purchasing links which, while not automatically penalized, is not welcomed with open arms by the search engine robots.

A much better approach would be to add the links slowly over an extended period of time. For example, adding 100 links online within 3 days will certainly inform the search engines you are purchasing links. In the eyes of many search engine systems, this is viewed more as an advertising campaign as opposed to a sincere effort at optimization. Because of this many of the links you publish that quickly are not really counted by the search engines.

The alternative would be to place a small number of links online each and everyday in a slow and deliberative manner. Rather than adding 100 links in three days, you would add two to three links per day for 45 days. This appears much more organic to the search engines which means they will consider the links to be more valuable.

Does this mean the deliberative process is a strategy designed to fool the search engines? No, it isn’t and if the search engines considered this process to be unethical they would clearly state so. Again, links are not just about boosting search engine placement. They are also a source of direct traffic. And the mere fact that your website’s (business’) name appears in the link helps promote the advertising of your venture. This is certainly not a banned tactic. The fact that your advertisement links also are counted in the stats for the search engine can be considered another excellent benefit. But, you will not get the main benefit of the search engine impact when all the links appear online within a mere period of a few days.

Some may wonder how they can find the time to handle such a complex link building strategy. Here is the answer: you might be best served hiring a service that offers link management. As the name implies, link management will handle the placement of the links – and optimization of your site – over an extended period of time.

There are, of course, higher costs involved with using a professional link management service as opposed to working doing the work on your own. Of course, the great benefit of working with such a service is that the work will actually be done timely and effectively. Again, this would be because you have hired professionals to handle the work for you.  This will enhance your success potential immensely.
